I plan to us the new GutCheck.com service on my next marketing research project. GutCheck allows you to set up individual chat interviews. Then you can develop a script and conduct the interview. So if your exploring a particular issue during the problem definition phase of research you can conduct a few interviews to discover as many variables as possible. GutCheck can be used if you just want some quick feedback from the marketplace even by non-professional researchers. However, be careful not to jump to conclusions. It is not intended to be used for quantitative data collection. You definitely won't be able to project anything about a universe.
Many of us have known what questions to ask when building a survey but we may not know he most important variables to use as response categories. Often we run surveys with open end questions until we have enough response to know what the response categories should be. Maybe we could use GutCheck to close those response categories before we launch a survey instrument. (Just an idea)
But like I said, I'm going to try to use GutCheck during the problem definition stage of my next project. This is probably the most important phase because it defines the entire project. If issues are not turned upside down it is possible to miss variables of enormous importance.
So go visit http://www.gutcheckit.com. They even have a video tour.

Thanks for the great post. We've already had some customers use the application in this way, and they were very happy with the results.
